Welcome to LMSC: the Legislation Monitoring Service for Charities, Voluntary Organisations and their Advisers

What do we do? We provide subscribers with an up-to-date information service on the latest relevant legislative and policy initiatives of interest to the voluntary sector.

Why do we do it? The service was founded 30 years ago in the belief that the most effective way of influencing policy is to make representations at the formative stage, before irrevocable decisions have been taken.

How do we do it? We monitor Government publications, Hansard, the latest law reports, breaking news and anything else that will help to keep charities up to date on relevant developments. We watch for legislation or changes in policy on the part of governmental or other organisations (including the EU and the devolved institutions) that may affect charities. Issues covered include charity law, political developments, tax law, company law, developments in government policy and social affairs.

What do you get?

  • Access to our website, which is updated several times each week with articles about what is happening as it is happening - and wherever possible, we aim to present complex issues in a succinct, easy to read format, breaking down legal jargon.
  • A weekly alert direct to your in-box listing the articles added in the last seven days.

The trustees of LMSC have decided that it is no longer feasible to continue operating the service given that so many sources of information are available to charities free of charge. We are therefore not inviting any subscription renewals. Thank you for your support over the years. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like further information.

Subscribers say...

"I find LMSC really useful. The format makes it easy to see what it is important to Cancer Research UK and then read those articles in depth."

Sarah Woolnough, Head of Policy, Cancer Research UK

"I don't know how any serious charity lawyer can manage without LMSC."

Michael King, Senior Partner and Head of Charity, Stone King Sewell LLP

"LMSC is wonderful. There is so much material on-line but with LMSC I know that it's up to date, accurate and so easy to use."

Anne-Marie Piper, Head of Charities, Farrer and Co

"LMSC is a wholly reliable, accurate and comprehensive source of information on what is going on in the law as it affects charities, and, crucially, covers areas of law that charities need to know about as well as charity law itself. I would certainly recommend it to all charities and their professional advisers."
